Choosing your fence isn’t just a matter of aesthetics! Between terrain constraints, material choice, and installation method, it’s normal to hesitate before confirming your purchase. At Districlos, our experts daily answer questions from individuals and professionals.

Here are concrete answers to the most frequent technical questions to ensure your outdoor landscaping is successful the first time.

Should posts be concreted in or should base plates be used?

It all depends on the nature of your soil. If you are installing your fence on an existing low wall or a concrete terrace, installation with base plates is ideal: the post base is screwed directly into the solid support. It’s quick and clean.

However, on soil or grass, concreting in is essential to guarantee stability. Please note: if you plan to install privacy screens or if your fence exceeds 1.20m in height, we strongly recommend concreting, even on a low wall. The mechanical resistance to wind will be far superior to that of simple anchor bolts.

Can a privacy screen be installed on any mesh fence?

This is a common mistake that can be costly. Installing an occultation kit (slats, fabric, artificial hedge) transforms your panel into a veritable sail. If your posts are not robust enough, the wind resistance risks bending the steel or tearing out the fixings at the first storm.

Before adding privacy, ensure you have slotted posts or reinforced models specifically designed to support this load. If your current mesh fence is a flexible model or installed on thin T-posts, you will probably need to reinforce the structure before adding privacy.

How to calculate the exact number of panels and posts?

Dividing the total length of your plot by 2.50 meters (the standard width of a panel) is not enough to get the correct figure. You must take into account the center distance, which is the precise distance from the middle of one post to the next, and which varies slightly depending on the models and type of slots.

Never forget to add an end post to complete your fence line. For corners, depending on the type of post chosen (round or slotted), you will either need to use a single post that handles the corner, or double the posts to continue in the new direction.

What if my land is sloped?

No need to rent a backhoe to level your entire garden! The stepped installation technique (or terraced installation) allows you to follow the natural slope of the ground without major work. Concretely, you install each panel slightly lower than the previous one, creating a regular “step.”

To achieve this installation, simply use longer posts at each drop to compensate for the difference in level. This is an aesthetic solution that avoids “gaps” under the mesh through which your animals could escape.

Which mesh fence to choose for a large dog?

Forget about simple twist flexible mesh if your animal is powerful or tends to jump against the fence. It will eventually deform it. You must opt for rigid mesh with a steel wire of at least 4 or 5 mm thick.

The rigidity of the panel will prevent the dog from forcing its way through. For jumping dogs, prefer a minimum height of 1.50m, or even 1.73m, to completely secure your perimeter. Also consider installing a concrete base plate if your dog tends to dig under the mesh.

Can I pick up my order directly in store?

Yes, and it is often the most economical solution. Thanks to our network of stores across France and our large stock, free pickup is possible for the majority of our products. This allows you to save on shipping costs and collect your goods quickly.

However, fencing products (pallets of panels, sliding gates) are bulky and heavy. If you are not equipped with a trailer or a utility vehicle, our home delivery or on-site delivery service remains the most comfortable option to avoid complex handling.

Will the fence rust over time?

Our professional products are designed to last thanks to galvanization. The steel is covered with a protective zinc layer before being plasticized by powder coating. This double treatment offers excellent resistance to corrosion and UV, far superior to entry-level products.

Unlike traditional ironwork that needs to be sanded and repainted regularly, a quality rigid panel requires almost no maintenance. A simple cleaning with soapy water once a year is enough to restore its shine.
