Identifying the Source of the Squeak: The Essential First Step
Before attempting any repair, you must precisely locate the source of the noise. To do this, nothing could be simpler: open and close your gate slowly several times in a row, listening carefully. Does the squeak come from the top hinge, the bottom hinge, or both? Sometimes, the noise only appears when you operate the handle; in this case, the lock mechanism is the culprit. This diagnostic step is quick but essential to apply the solution in the right place and be effective.
A Thorough Cleaning of Hinges and Lock is Necessary
