Installation guide: motorised sliding gate

sliding gate motor

Have you purchased a motorised sliding gate from Districlos? Congratulations—you will enjoy everyday ease of use, with maximum reliability and safety.

For a successful installation, follow our detailed, step-by-step installation guide. The Districlos team has thought of everything to support you in completing your project, from the first screw to commissioning your gate!

Check the equipment and prepare the worksite

First of all, carefully unpack your sliding gate and check that all components are present: the gate leaf, the stop, the motor with its components, and all the necessary parts.

On the worksite side, clean the work area and prepare the necessary tools: drill, screwdriver, gloves, etc. For smooth sliding, make sure the ground is perfectly level, flat, and stable. Also check the electrical supply that will power the motor.

Rail installation

Before fixing the rail to the ground, make sure that the surface it will be installed on is perfectly level and strong. In this guide, we assume that a concrete ground beam is already in place. Otherwise, this is the first step in installing a sliding gate.

It is essential to install your motorised sliding gate on a level footing with reinforcement. A sliding gate is installed using a rail. This rail must be installed on a ground beam, or a perfectly level and robust concrete footing, to withstand the weight of the gate and the vehicles that will pass over it.

If the masonry is already in place, you can position the gate according to the dimensions indicated in your kit. The rail is then installed by drilling into the footing, then screwing it down on both sides along its entire length.

Good to know: Use a mason’s straightedge to make sure you install the second rail perfectly on the same axis!

Installing the gate

Once the rail is installed, you can place the gate on it. This will allow you to identify the position of the guide, or guide bracket, which is fixed to the post.

Mark the positions using a pencil or marker, then drill your posts.

All that remains is to fix the stop on one side of the gate, and the closing strike plate on the other. At this stage, your gate will be able to open and close manually. We can now motorise it.

Motorising your sliding gate

To motorise your gate, start by fixing the rack to it. It is screwed onto the gate, and its pinions will be driven by the motor. The motorisation is installed on a mounting plate fixed using threaded rods anchored into the concrete footing.

Install the motor on its mounting plate, and connect the link and power cables to the corresponding terminals.

Please note: when your gate motor is operating, it must trigger a flashing light that is visible from the public road. Gate photocells are also required to stop the gate if a presence is detected.

Once the motor is in place, all that remains is to install two detectors on either side of the rack. When passing in front of the motor, the detectors will communicate the gate status: open or closed.
