How to Install a Concrete Base Panel
Installing a base panel may seem daunting, but we’ll guide you through each step. For more details, see our blog article on this topic.
Start by marking out your fence line and the locations for your posts. Dig holes approximately 16 inches long and wide, and 20 inches deep.
Next, set your post (with the notch facing up) and measure the exposed part above ground. This should match the height of your fence panel plus the base panel.
Finally, slide the base panel into the groove of the post with the cap facing up and toward the outside. Use a level to ensure it’s straight.

The most common options are 10 inches or 20 inches high. Choose a 10-inch base panel for level ground if you want a more discreet look and easier installation. Go with a 20-inch panel for sloped areas, to help keep out small animals, or if you plan to partially bury the panel to even out changes in elevation.
No, compatibility depends on the type of post you use. Our base panels come in two lengths: 2525 mm for slotted posts and 2500 mm for clip posts. Each mounting system requires specific dimensions to fit properly into the post grooves and ensure your rigid fence panels are securely installed.
Start by digging a shallow trench just deep enough to fit the panel. Set the first post in its hole, then slide the concrete base panel into the groove of the post, making sure it’s level. Position the second post by fitting it onto the other end of the panel. Finally, secure everything in place with concrete, forming a small mound around the base for stability.
A concrete fence base only needs to be rinsed with water once a year to keep it looking clean. Its smooth surface naturally resists dirt and weather, so maintenance is minimal. Avoid harsh chemicals that could affect the anthracite gray color—just use a garden hose to wash away dust and marks.
