How to Accurately Measure for Your Fence Project
Before ordering your fence, it’s essential to take precise measurements. The measuring process is the same whether you’re installing on a base plate or setting posts in the ground.
Don’t worry if you’re new to this—just follow these straightforward steps.
1. Determine the Total Length
Example of measuring the perimeter: 20+10+20+10 = 60 m
Example for an L-shaped yard: add up each side
2. Choose the Height
H: Measure your fence height based on the above-ground section.

Your needs:
0.6m to 1.2m: ideal for marking a property line
1.5m to 1.8m: a good balance for home security and privacy
2.0m and above: best for maximum privacy.
+8–12 in for posts set on a wall
+12–20 in for posts set directly in the ground
(depends on your soil type)
Check your local regulations for permitted fence heights before choosing.

Local regulations:
Each city or town may have its own zoning rules that set a maximum fence height. In some areas, you may be limited to 6 ft or required to follow specific design guidelines (especially in subdivisions or protected zones). Always check with your local authorities before ordering to avoid issues.
3. Decide if You Need a Base (Sill)
The base (small concrete wall or slab) helps to:
- • Prevent grass from growing under the fence
- • Hold back soil if your yard isn’t level (up to 30% of the base height)
- • Add strength to your fence
- • Deter animals from entering your yard
- • Improve the overall look
If your ground is flat and even, a base is optional.
There are two types of bases: concrete or powder-coated steel!
4. Decide if You Need a Base Plate
A base plate is used to anchor your posts to a concrete surface. On a wall or concrete slab, it keeps your post and fence secure.
Note: If you plan to add privacy slats to a rigid fence, setting posts in concrete is recommended. Using a base plate isn’t ideal for this, as the added weight and wind load can damage your fence.
5. Account for Sloped Ground
Stepped installation (by sections): Each section is installed level, but at a different height than the previous one.
To plan this, measure the length of each step (horizontal segment).
You can add a base for each step, either by burying it or cutting it to fit.
Alternatively, cut your panels as needed or use chain link, which is easier to adapt to slopes.

6. Calculate the Number of Posts Needed
The number of posts depends on your total length and fence type. Each fence panel is installed between two posts.
Each panel is 2.5m long.
Example: For 25m of fencing with 2.5m panels: 25 ÷ 2.5 = 10 panels
You’ll need 11 posts (1 starter post + 1 post between each panel)
Our posts are designed to handle corners, so you don’t need extra posts for angles! However, if you’re adding a base, double the number of posts.
Each rigid mesh panel is 2.5 meters long.
For certain layouts or custom lengths—such as 6 meters or along a curve—you can trim a panel to fit. Rigid mesh panels are easy to cut with the right tool (angle grinder or bolt cutters), so you can get a perfect fit for your project.
In Summary:
Measure the total perimeter.
Choose your height (based on your needs and local regulations).
Decide if you need a base or a base plate.
Check if your ground is sloped or flat.
Count your corners to plan for the right number of posts.

Note: The posts included in our kits are designed for standard installation on level ground. If your site has a slope, you may need longer posts for proper installation.
Our slats are guaranteed for functionality and stability for 10 years within a temperature range of -20°F to +104°F, provided installation, storage, and transport guidelines are followed. UV-related fading is a normal process for PVC slats and is not covered under warranty. The warranty does not cover direct or indirect damage from installation or replacement of slats.
