Start by measuring the total length of the area you want to fence. Use a tape measure or laser measurer to get the exact distance from your starting point to the end point. If your yard has multiple sides or corners, measure each section separately for accuracy.

Once you have your measurements, you can determine how many fence sections you’ll need. A section is the space between two posts and makes up one fence panel. Be sure to plan for a post at each end of the fence and between every section.
