How to Install End Slats on a Composite Fence Kit
End slats, also known as edge boards, are installed first and last in your rigid mesh fence panel, on the post side. Before installation, trim each slat to the required height using a circular saw with a fine-tooth carbide blade. Start by inserting the first end slat into the outermost mesh next to the left post. Slide it down vertically to the bottom rail, then clip it onto the retaining bar to secure it. Repeat on the opposite side of the panel. Internal slats are then fitted to fill the center space. Be sure to leave at least 1 cm between the bottom of the panel and the ground to make slat insertion easier and prevent contact with ground moisture.

Getting a clean installation starts with precise cutting. Boards measuring 1.90m need to be trimmed to match your panel height—1.03m, 1.23m, 1.53m, or 1.73m—before fitting. Use a straight pencil line and make a clean cut to ensure a flush fit with no gaps or overhang.
Vertical alignment is just as important. Always check each board with a level before securing it in place. Even a slight misalignment will be noticeable once the panel is finished.
Consistent clipping on each horizontal wire is key for long-term stability. If the board is too loose, it may rattle in strong winds. Properly secured, it provides a stable, uniform finish along the entire panel, regardless of height.
