Round Steel Post for Fencing

Square posts make it easier to attach fencing on all four sides and provide greater structural stability. Round posts are more flexible for sharp angles and are often easier to install using clamp brackets. Choose square posts if you want extra strength and a clean look; go with round posts if you need quick installation and adaptability to uneven ground.

To install a round post, you can either set it in concrete or mount it on a base plate, depending on your project. Use galvanized steel brackets to attach the fence panels to the post—plan for 2 brackets on end posts and 4 on intermediate posts. Drill the required holes and tighten the brackets securely to ensure a strong, long-lasting installation.

Build a cylindrical form using cardboard or flexible wood to match your desired dimensions. Place the rebar cage inside the form. Pour the concrete, making sure to vibrate it periodically to remove air bubbles and achieve a smooth finish. Keep the form upright and steady while the concrete cures for 24 to 48 hours before removing the form.

To determine how many round posts you need, divide the total length of your fence by the standard spacing of 8 feet between posts, then add 1 to your result. Make sure to allow for an extra 20 inches in post height for setting them in the ground. Don’t forget to include corner and end posts, as these usually require extra reinforcement for stability.

Tension bands are essential for attaching fence panels to round posts, along with the appropriate self-tapping screws. Protective caps are recommended for the top of the posts to prevent water from getting inside. Mounting plates can be used to install posts on hard surfaces like concrete. Depending on your project, decorative wooden posts can also be an option.
