Choosing quality fencing<\/h2>\n

The durability of your fence depends primarily on its quality. To avoid seeing it rust after a few months, prioritize certified materials. Rely on standards such as the EN-10142 standard<\/strong> for steel quality and check the thickness of protective coatings (zinc, powder coating). <\/p>\n

Consider the accessories as well. A complete range will allow you to easily integrate a matching pedestrian or driveway gate. The option to add privacy screening compatible with rigid panels can also be an important selection criterion for your peace of mind. <\/p>\n

Before installation: procedures to follow<\/h3>\n

Each municipality has its own urban planning rules, recorded in the Local Urban Plan (PLU). Some impose no constraints, while others are very strict, particularly if your land is located near a historical monument or a protected site. <\/p>\n

  1. Consult the urban planning department:<\/strong> This is the first step to take. Visit your town hall to consult the PLU. Urban planning officers will inform you about the rules to follow for your future fence: maximum height, authorized colors, and distance from public roads or property boundaries. <\/li>\n
  2. File a prior declaration of works:<\/strong> Installing a fence modifies the exterior appearance of your property. It is therefore almost always subject to a prior declaration of works (DP)<\/strong>. This is a simple file to submit to the town hall, including a Cerfa form and a site plan of your land. The town hall has one month to review your request. Once obtained, the authorization is valid for three years. <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    During the works: displaying the authorization<\/h3>\n

    Once the declaration is accepted, you must display this authorization on your land on a sign measuring at least 80×80 cm. This display must remain in place for the entire duration of the works. <\/p>\n

    It serves to inform the neighborhood and opens a two-month period during which a third party can contest your project. Note:<\/strong> if you omit this display, your neighbors have a period of six months after the completion of the works to demand the removal of your fence. The sign must mention your name, the permit number, the nature of the project, and the address of the town hall where the file can be consulted. <\/p>\n

    Do not overlook your neighbors<\/h2>\n

    Your fencing project directly impacts your neighborhood. To maintain good relations and anticipate potential disagreements, the best solution remains dialogue. Take the time to present your project to your neighbors before starting the works. <\/p>\n

    Exceptions to know<\/h2>\n

    In certain cases, a prior declaration is not necessary:<\/p>\n

    • Identical renovation:<\/strong> If you are replacing an existing wall or fence without modifying its appearance (height, material, color).<\/li>\n
