It is also <strong>thanks to this document<\/strong> that municipalities and their residents are aware of <strong>classified<\/strong> and\/or <strong>historic sites<\/strong>, as well as <strong>zones classified<\/strong> as natural biological reserves.  <\/p>\n\n<p>The Local Urban Plan (<strong>PLU<\/strong>) does not concern all types of pergolas and only focuses on a few:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li>The <strong>lean-to bipod pergola<\/strong>: With only 2 feet on a base plate, the rest of the structure rests on the exterior facade of your home.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong>freestanding pergola<\/strong>: With its four feet on base plates, it can be installed anywhere on your terrace, depending on its dimensions.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cloture-discount.fr\/amenagement-exterieur\/1280-pergola-bioclimatique-autoportante.html\">bioclimatic pergola<\/a><\/strong>: Based on the same structure as the freestanding pergola, this one is equipped with a roof of adjustable louvers (manually or by remote control) to manage heat and light.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"que-dois-je-faire-pour-faire-construire-ma-pergola-\">What do I need to do to have my pergola built?<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"si-ma-pergola-fait-moins-de-20m&#xB2;\">If my pergola is less than 20m\u00b2<\/h3>\n\n<p>If the pergola you plan to install in your garden is <strong>less than 20m\u00b2<\/strong>, you will need to go to the town hall to submit a <strong>prior declaration of works<\/strong> (because your project falls under the category of &#8220;<em>Creation of floor area or ground footprint<\/em>&#8220;).<br\/>Before you start, remember to consult the Local Urban Plan to avoid the unpleasant surprise of a prior declaration being refused due to a <strong>condition not met<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"si-ma-pergola-fait-plus-de-20m&#xB2;\">If my pergola is more than 20m\u00b2<\/h3>\n\n<p>If the pergola you dream of installing on your garden terrace is <strong>more than 20m\u00b2<\/strong>, you will then need to apply for a building permit. As with pergolas under 20m\u00b2, consult the PLU to avoid any unpleasant surprises. <\/p>\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"o&#xF9;-je-dois-me-rendre-pour-consulter-\">Where should I go to consult?<\/h2>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"le-plan-local-durbanisme-plu\">The Local Urban Plan (PLU)<\/h3>\n\n<p>To consult the Local Urban Plan, two solutions are available to you:<\/p>\n\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Go directly to the urban planning department<\/strong> of your town hall and meet with an assistant or the person in charge.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Consult your city&#8217;s website in the urban planning section<\/strong> (if it has one) and access the PLU for your city or community of municipalities freely.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"la-d&#xE9;claration-pr&#xE9;alable-de-travaux\">The prior declaration of works<\/h3>\n\n<p>Once the PLU has been consulted, you can contact your town hall to submit a request using a <strong>paper form<\/strong> or <strong>electronically<\/strong> through the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.service-public.fr\/particuliers\/vosdroits\/R52221\">urban planning authorization request assistance<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\" id=\"la-demande-dun-permis-de-construire\">The building permit application<\/h3>\n\n<p>The building permit application can be submitted through <strong>several channels<\/strong>. As with the prior declaration, you can go to your local town hall to complete a <strong>paper form<\/strong>.
