This obligation, in force since 2004, aims primarily at the prevention of drowning<\/strong>, particularly among young children. Among the four approved devices (alarm, cover, enclosure, barrier), the protective barrier remains one of the most popular solutions for its reliability. <\/p>\n

To be compliant, your installation must adhere to specific regulations. The NF P90-306 pool barrier standard<\/strong> defines all the requirements to be followed. <\/p>\n

The NF P90-306 Standard: The Legal Framework for Your Safety<\/h2>\n

The pool safety law<\/strong> mandates that any outdoor private pool<\/strong>, whether in-ground or semi-in-ground, must be equipped with at least one of the four required safety devices. The protective barrier, governed by the NF P90-306 standard<\/strong>, aims to physically prevent a child under 5 years old from accessing the pool without adult assistance. <\/p>\n

The manufacturer or installer must provide you with a certificate of conformity<\/strong>. This document certifies that the product meets all the standard’s requirements. Keep it carefully, as your insurer may request it in the event of an accident. <\/p>\n

Technical Criteria for a Compliant Pool Barrier<\/h2>\n

For a pool fence<\/strong> to be NF P90-306 approved, it must meet strict specifications.<\/p>\n

Height and spacing<\/h3>\n

The height of the barrier, between the highest support point and the top of the fence, must be at least 1.10 meters. This measurement is designed to prevent a young child from climbing over it. The ground clearance, meaning the space under the barrier, must not exceed 25 mm to prevent a child from slipping underneath. <\/p>\n

If your pool fence<\/strong> is made of bars, the spacing between them must not exceed 102 mm, whether vertical or horizontal.<\/p>\n

The Safety Gate<\/h3>\n

Access to the pool must be via a safety gate<\/strong> that also meets specific rules. It must open outwards from the pool to prevent a child from pushing it open to enter. <\/p>\n

Its locking system<\/strong> must be secure and require two simultaneous or consecutive actions to open. This ensures that a young child cannot operate it alone. An automatic locking mechanism<\/strong> is often integrated so that the gate closes and locks without manual intervention. <\/p>\n

Resistance and Installation<\/h3>\n

The barrier must be able to withstand an impact of 50 kg without breaking or deforming, simulating the weight of a child leaning or falling on it. Its materials must not be sharp: no sharp edges or points that could cause cuts or scratches. <\/p>\n

Finally, the pool barrier<\/strong> must be installed at least 1 meter from the edge of the pool. This safety distance provides sufficient circulation space and prevents a child who has managed to get past the barrier from falling directly into the water. <\/p>\n

Different Types of Compliant Barriers<\/h2>\n

Compliance with the pool barrier standard<\/strong> does not mandate a single material. You can find models that suit your taste and budget. <\/p>\n

  • Mesh or PVC barrier:<\/strong> This is an economical and easy-to-install solution. Often flexible, it absorbs impacts well. <\/li>\n
  • Glass barrier:<\/strong> More aesthetically pleasing, it offers an unobstructed view of the pool while ensuring safety. Its cost is higher. <\/li>\n
  • Wrought iron or aluminum barrier:<\/strong> It offers a classic look and great longevity.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n

    Regarding fastening, there are fixed models, sealed to the ground, and removable protective fences<\/strong>. The latter, such as Beethoven brand barriers, can be dismantled when constant supervision is provided. There are also retractable pool fences<\/strong>, which retract into the ground manually or automatically, but their installation is more complex and expensive.
